Snippet from Specimen

 

Hi, welcome back! 

I'm hard at work on my book WIPs, and one of those is the Specimen sequel (title to be announced!) which will be book 2 of the PRISM Agents series.

I shared a little snippet from Book 2 a few weeks ago!

With this in mind, I wanted to share a favourite scene from Specimen, the first book in the series.

Specimen is told through the eyes of David, an ex-US Marine who was on the run, and got picked up (pun intended) by Sonny from MI6, British Intelligence.

They start off at odds (Sonny literally tries to shoot David, and they fight hand to hand) then Sonny offers him the choice to join his Paranormal Recon team or be killed. 

Dramatic!

The section I've chosen to share is from much later in the book, over halfway, when the pair are going through their #enforced proximity time, and getting closer to one another. Bit of a slow burner!

A few walls might still be up but David is able to peep over the top of Sonny’s by now:

“The order was to kill you or bring you in. They let me decide which. You’re here because of me.”

The hairs on David’s neck stood to attention. That threat of danger was still present between them, and it probably shouldn’t have been arousing but David couldn’t help that it was.

“So, you decided to bring me in?” David probed. “Why?”

“Why, what?” Sonny’s eyes flashed with something: anger, irritation? The probing was starting to rile him; that much was obvious. “You ticked the boxes for a viable working asset. Simple as that.”

Just what every man wanted to hear, David thought wryly.

“Okay,” he drawled. “And, gonna go out on a limb here, perhaps also because you liked me a little bit?” 

He nudged his elbow against Sonny’s, a small prod to soften the words.

He wasn’t sure how Sonny would react, given the look in his eyes. David half expected this to end with Sonny’s fist in his face, but then Sonny smiled and shook his head.

“All right. Maybe a little bit.”

Aw, is that wall crumbling just a smidge!
